Today’s mission focused on understanding how a sailing crew works together as a team and how coordinated actions make a yacht safe, efficient, and enjoyable to sail.
We began the session by reviewing crew roles and responsibilities on board. Throughout the day, participants rotated between different positions, allowing everyone to experience various tasks and gain a better understanding of how each crew member contributes to the yacht’s operation.
A major part of the mission was dedicated to practicing manoeuvres under sail. The crew trained a series of tacks and gybes, learning how communication, timing, and coordination are essential during every manoeuvre. By regularly changing roles, participants experienced both active and supporting positions during sail handling.
We also focused on marina operations under engine power. The crew practiced leaving the marina, maintaining control of the yacht in confined spaces, and safely returning to the berth. These exercises helped participants build confidence in low-speed boat handling and understand the importance of preparation and teamwork during departures and arrivals.
At the end of the sailing session, the crew worked together to lower, organize, and properly stow the sails. Participants learned the correct procedures for securing equipment and preparing the yacht after a day on the water.
Mission 8 highlighted one of the most important principles of sailing: a successful voyage depends not on individual actions, but on the crew working together as a coordinated team. By the end of the day, participants had improved their manoeuvring skills, expanded their understanding of crew responsibilities, and gained valuable practical experience in real sailing conditions.
