Today’s lesson, Mission 4 – Discover Steering, focused on learning how to properly steer the yacht and maintain balance while sailing in changing wind conditions.

We started the mission with light wind. Because we were sailing on a relatively small body of water, the wind direction was very variable and changed frequently. This made steering more challenging and required constant attention from the crew.

The main objective of today’s training was to practice:

• steering the boat,
• keeping the correct sailing direction,
• adjusting the sail shape and tightness,
• and maintaining the proper heel of the yacht.

During the lesson, each participant had the opportunity to steer the yacht using the tiller. We practiced reacting to changing wind conditions and coordinating steering with sail adjustments. At times the wind became stronger, causing the yacht to heel more and giving us exciting moments of faster and more dynamic sailing.

The lesson was both educational and enjoyable. We improved our understanding of how the yacht reacts to wind and steering input, while also gaining more confidence controlling the boat in variable conditions.
