Learn Cruiser Sailing · Introduction to cruiser sailing for beginners

In 2026, we are launching the “Learn Cruiser Sailing” initiative — a program that introduces both children and adults to the basics of cruiser sailing.

The program is intended for people who would like to try sailing on a cruiser yacht for the first time and gain practical skills in a friendly and supportive environment.

Participants will learn the fundamentals of sailing, including:

basic boat handling
safety on the water
wind awareness and basic navigation
teamwork and communication on board

The focus is on hands-on experience, allowing participants to learn by sailing together with experienced sailors.

Our goal is to make sailing accessible, safe, and enjoyable, and to help new sailors discover the freedom and excitement of being on the water.

This initiative also supports the mission of Roergames Stichting to promote sports, outdoor activities, and community engagement.

Who can join

The program is open to beginners who would like to try cruiser sailing for the first time.

You can join if you:

are interested in learning the basics of sailing
enjoy outdoor activities and teamwork
are curious about sailing and life on the water
are willing to learn in a friendly and supportive environment

No previous sailing experience is required.

Location

The program will take place in Roermond (Limburg, Netherlands) — one of the best sailing areas in the region.

Training activities are planned on the Maasplassen, a large network of lakes known for excellent conditions for recreational sailing and water sports.

The location offers a safe and beautiful environment for beginners to discover sailing.

Previous experience

A similar initiative was previously developed by our team — the Wise Digital Sailing Team in Ukraine (2015–2017).

The project helped introduce both young people and adults to sailing and provided opportunities for training and participation in regattas. The team also achieved strong results in local competitions.

This experience showed how community-based sailing initiatives can inspire people of different ages to discover the sport.
