1: The Beginning of an Adventure

Every great journey starts quietly — sometimes not with running shoes, but with a spark of curiosity. If you’ve been thinking about running, yet keep postponing it, you’re not alone. Many of us hesitate: Am I ready? Will it hurt? Is it really for me?

The truth is, you don’t need to start on the road today. You can begin right here, on your couch, with a book that has already changed the lives of thousands of runners.

Meet Gordon Pirie

Gordon Pirie was not just another athlete. He was a two-time Olympian, world record holder, and one of the fastest men of his era. But more importantly, he was a thinker, a rebel, and a teacher who dared to challenge the way people ran. While others accepted pain and injuries as “part of the sport,” Gordon insisted there was a better way — running that was faster, lighter, freer, and, above all, injury-free.

He even fought against the shoe industry, warning decades ago that cushioned, heavy shoes were harming runners instead of helping them. (Yes — this is one of those insights that can blow your mind once you dive deeper. But let’s leave that for upcoming posts. )

Why This Book Matters

His book Running Fast and Injury Free is not just about training plans or techniques. It’s about rethinking what running means. It’s about freedom of movement, listening to your body, and discovering that running can be joyful, safe, and deeply rewarding.

As Gordon himself wrote:

“Running is not punishment — it is the celebration of movement.”

“Every step, no matter how small, is part of the great journey.”

Your First Step

So let’s begin this adventure together — not on the road, but in the pages of a book. In the coming posts, I’ll share insights from Gordon’s teachings: surprising truths about shoes, posture, training, and recovery — ideas that may completely change how you think about running and health.

But for now, the only step you need to take is simple: download the book, read a few pages, and let the journey begin. Ask questions, share your impressions, and let’s explore Gordon’s wisdom together.

Because who knows? This may be the start of the best adventure of your life.
