3: Running as a Celebration, Not Punishment
Running is Joy
Too often, people think of running as suffering. Breathless laps at school. Painful jogging attempts. The fear of injury. But Gordon Pirie turned this idea upside down.
For him, running was freedom. A way to reconnect with our bodies, to celebrate what they can do. He wrote:
“Running is not punishment — it is the celebration of movement.”
And here’s the secret: you don’t have to run a marathon to feel it. You can start so small that it almost feels like play.
Practical Part: Your First Step Indoors
-
Sit comfortably and take 3 deep breaths.
-
Stand up, march in place for 30–60 seconds.
-
Walk slowly around your room 3 times.
That’s it. You’ve already started!
It may seem tiny, but it’s about awakening your body and mind. Each step is a seed of change.
Try it today and share: How did it feel? Light? Silly? Refreshing?
